Chichester Priory 10k
REMEMBER when the Chichester Priory 10k was held on a frosty February morning, with ice on the roads around Lavant, and runners weren’t sure whether to wear a t-shirt under their club vest?
Well, for the second year on the trot, the race has been staged in October, and beautiful unseasonal weather greeting the staging of the event which was built around the AAA 10k Road Championship.
As a result a top quality field of runners flocked to West Sussex from all four corners of the UK, including Northern Ireland, and which saw the wonderfully-named Russell Dessaix-Chin from Belgrave Harriers win the event in 29min 38sec.
Such was the quality of the race that local runner, James Baker (Chichester & District AC), who has been wiping the floor in south coast races this year, had to be content with a mere 29th place in 31.46.
Stubbington’s Mark Le Gassick wasn’t too far behind his nemesis in 40th place – and wearing the number 40 – with 32.52.
Tim Sullivan ran well to nip under the 40 minute mark with 39.09 for 166th place (Vet 40, 35th), and marathon man Jon Leigh, winding down his training as he looks towards next month’s New York Marathon, finished in 41.20 for 231st (Vet 40, 58th).
Caroline Hoyte from the Arena 80 club in Brighton was the first lady home in 33.25 for 51st overall.
Other Stubbies:
296th: Zac Conaty 42.56
444th Keith Whittaker 45.56 (Vet 50, 36th).
483rd: Robert Calver 46.41.
525th: David Langrish 47.42 (Vet 50, 52nd).
711th: Tim Crumpton (?) 51.56 (Vet 50, 77th).
