Braishfield 5

Andy Tomlinson

FATHER'S Day is about giving....and Andy Tomlinson received one Father's Day gift he might have had second thoughts about. His daughters entered their dad for the Braishfield 5 road race near Romsey.

On a stinking hot day, Andy joined 166 other runners for the race organised by Romsey Road Runners. His daughters were there to support dad who finished 95th in a time of 41mins 47secs for the five-mile distance. The one consolation was that dad was able to savour his run with a lovely pint of beer at the end.

Andy Simpson led the race for the first 600 metres as usual, but couldn't keep up the pace as, according to team-mate Ray Gunner, "Andy Morgan-Lee, James Baker and Matt West - all good runners - strolled past him with ease!" Even so, Andy ran close to a personal best finishing eighth in 28.38. Southampton Running Club's Morgan-Lee won in 25.42, and Karen Rushton completed a Southampton double by capturing the ladies' race in 30.33.

Graham Bell had a great run to finish 13th in 30.07 just ahead of the aforementioned Ray Gunner who was 15th in 30.50 as Stubbington finished second in the team rankings behind Southampton Running Club.

Tim Crumpton was 30th in 32.28, with Marcus Lee just over a minute behind in 33.42 for 38th place. Zac Conaty checked in with 37.41 for 65th and Nicholas Lewkowicz was 83rd in 40.10.
