Stubbington Green Runners

Bishops Waltham 5

Nick Davies

IT was a perfect summer’s day for the Bishops Waltham five-mile race which attracted 115 runners.

Seven Stubbies took part in the race, which was organised by the Rotary Club of Bishops Waltham, with money from the day going to a number of good causes – both local and international.

First runner home this year was Matt West from Winchester & District Athletic Club in a very creditable time of 27 minutes, 34 seconds, which was almost a minute faster than last year's winner. Eighteen-year-old Unattached runner, Lorna Russell, won the ladies’ race in 30.28 for fourth place overall.

Robert Blackmore was the first Stubby home in 17th place with 34.33, followed by Nick Davies in 25th with 37.15. Vet Derek Balsdon was 43rd in 39.35, while the evergreen John Vose, in his 72nd year was 57th in 41.58, but beaten at the finish by a 78-year-old in Raymond Gee from Southampton Running Club who was two seconds quicker!!

David Elland checked in with 68th place and 44.07 followed by John Randall with 75th in 45.11.
