Beachy Head Marathon
THE Beachy Head Marathon is one of the tougher 26-milers on the list, an event which traditionally attracts runners from all over the world.
Formerly known as the Seven Sisters Marathon, it is one of the biggest off-road marathons in the UK. Held in Eastbourne, the race is popular for its scenic and challenging route through the South Downs countryside.
Among those taking part was Stubbington's John Exley. The maths teacher had clearly factored in the half-term break for recovery time, and he will have needed that with a swift 3hrs 48min marathon, and 48th place.
Some 1,750 runners took part with New Zealander Stuart Mills, running for the University of Brighton, coming home first in 3:02. The leading lady was Jackie Hartwell from Bracknell Forest Runners whose 3:41 earned her 28th place.
