West Wight Three Hills
COMPETITION was close between Zippy Grice and Chris Hall at the Easter Monday West Wight Three Hills race.
Zippy, coming off the back of an impressive run-out at the Bournemouth Half Marathon, and with Hally in good form after an injury lay-off, helped a three-man Stubbington team, which also included John Exley, into third place at the multi-terrain event.
The race, which starts and finishes at West Wight Swimming Pool, consists of a tough, undulating eight mile loop with about 900 feet of ascent.
The scenic course takes in Golden Hill Fort, Freshwater, Headon Warren, Alum Bay, Highdown, Tennyson Down, Freshwater Bay and back to the finish at Freshwater.
Zippy came third in the race just under two minutes behind winner Paul Cameron from West Wight Runners who clocked 46min 26sec to Zippy's 48.08.
Chris was not far behind the leading group in eighth with 54.37, John Exley was 25th overall in 59.11 and Nick Crane was 48th in 1hr 4 min 22 sec (a 19 sec improvement on 2006). A total of 89 runners took part.
Cheralyn Evans from Telford AC won the ladies event in 58.55 for 22nd overall and Halesowen A & CC took team honours ahead of West Wight Road Runners and then Stubbington.
