Watford Half Marathon - 4 February 2007

THE Watford Half Marathon provided the latest event in Dave King's challenge to run around the British Isles in 80 races.

A field of 1,947 runners took part in the race which attracted a top quality field - the race was won by Salford's Tomas Abyu in a suicidal 1hr 4min 50sec, with Great Britain international, Liz Yelling, winning the ladies' race in 1:13.42.

Dave, who ran 1hr 34min at the Brass Monkey Half Marathon in York a fortnight earlier, clocked 1:35.09 (his watch had the time at 1:34.55!) for 364th place.

"This was a really good half marathon," said Dave. "You wouldn't think Watford could be so scenic, but this is a fantastic race which starts and finishes at Casiobury Park and takes in a rural course around the Hertfordshire countryside. There are five testing climbs and a loop round the park to finish."
