UK Ironman
IS there a doctor in the house? Richard Thomas might have needed one after competing in the UK Ironman, but the doctor who works at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester was feeling fine after his magificent performance.
The event took place at Sherborne Castle in Dorset consisting of a 2.4 mile swim a 112 mile cycle ride and then a marathon to finish.
Richard completed the swim in a time of 1hr 9min 14sec, and then put the pedal to the metal for a blistering ride in 5hrs 59min 12sec.
But he saved the best till last, because after more than seven hours of swimming and cycling, the Stubbington Green Runner then jumped off his bike and ran a marathon in an amazing 3hrs 40min 54sec.
That gave him a total time of 10hrs 58min and 10sec for 155th overall in a top quality field and 22nd in the Male 40 to 44 years age group.
A fantastic achievement, and some time!
