Trundle Hill 10km
RAY Gunner, the amiable, quiet-mannered Stubby, has had Chris Hall in his sights for some time! The two of them run at much the same pace, but for years it has been Hally who has held the upper hand - until now!
With his father-in-law watching, and wife Wendy alongside, Chris found himself beaten to the finish in a recent RR10 race in the New Forest.
If that wasn't enough and just to prove it wasn't a fluke, Ray went out and did the same thing again at the Trundle Hill 10km race, which is based at Lavant in West Sussex.
"Yes, I pipped that man again," was all the modest Ray could say after dishing out a 30 second whipping of Chris. Ray finished 10th in a time of 40min 23sec, with Chris coming home in 14th place in 40.53.
Jon Leigh was also among the 299 runners who took part to finish 72nd in 48.31. All three were taking part in the South Downs Relay a few weeks later, so this race was ideal hill training for them.
"The evening was much better than last year which was very very wet as said by Mr Leigh," added Ray.
"This race is a up to the top, round the peak and then down to the finish. It is very hard on the legs but a very friendly atmosphere."
Chichester Runners' James Baker added another race victory to his belt for 2007 with a winning time of 35.45.
