Stubbington Green Runners

TRAINING makes your heart grow stronger (plus your lungs and legs!)

It's that time of year again - the lighter evenings have arrived, and the warm, sunny days and clear blue skies have come and gone to make way for windy, wet, and overcast weather. Well, it wouldn't be a Bank holiday otherwise, would it?

But, if you think that your only option is to settle down in front of the telly to watch the latest countdown of the 100 most blatantly annoying TV adverts to air in the commercial breaks of the top 100 most godforsaken films that should never have been made, well, it's time to think again.

Don't even think about reaching for that remote because cool, grey and overcast weather may not be everyone's cup of tea, but for runners it's the perfect recipe for speed and endurance training. And, that's where Stubbington Green Runners & AC come in.

As from Tuesday 8th May, the Tuesday sessions will be switching to the grass track at Crofton Secondary School, Marks Road (just off Gosport Road). The start time is the same as usual - 6.30pm , but please meet on the track, at the field at the back of the school, NOT at the Crofton Community Centre car park. The Tuesday schedule for the coming weeks is as follows:

These sessions are ideal for runners of all abilities, and will help you develop an extra edge to your running. With just a few of these sessions under your belt, the next time someone tries to overtake you in the final few yards of a race, you'll be able to change up another gear and show them who's boss.

And, as if unleashing the speed demon you never knew you had isn't enough, why not push the boat out and, on Thursdays, add in some quality endurance training as well? You see - speed and endurance really do make a lovely couple - soul mates some might say.

On Thursday evenings we've also now switched to our summer training schedule. However, the time and meeting place hasn't changed - it's still 7pm at the Locks Heath Sports and Social Club, just off Warsash Road. The Thursday evening schedule up until the end of May is outlined below:

All of the above sessions are off-road, on firm tracks, around the stunningly beautiful areas of Chilling and Warsash.

What more can I say? The summer schedules are here, the weather's perfect, the sessions are set, and, in just a few weeks from now you could be the leanest, meanest, keenest, not to mention greenest thing on two legs! So how d'ya like them apples?
