Track & Field
STUBBINGTON Green’s track and field team missed out by just a point on a second place finish at the Southern League meeting in Southampton.
Mike Williams and Mark Le Gassick led the way with victories in the Division 3 meeting. Mike won the 400m in 50.9sec and Mark recorded a time of 15min 38.1sec to take a fast 5km.
The club’s other five point haul came in the shot putt when Stewart Shaw won the B string event with a putt of 9.87m after Dave Woolcott had thrown 9.98m in the A string help.
Track and field captain, Mike Harper, was pleased with the result. He said: “and thanks to our helpers for our home fixture, who made life much easier for me and all our athletes. These were Mike Clarke, Rachel O’Shea, Kay and Brian Hogg and Murray Williams.
“In our last fixture on August 4th we travel to Basingstoke, and face the two bottom teams. As you can see from the table we cannot go up or down so hopefully can just enjoy the day.”
