Today's Runner XC, Staunton Country Park
A warm, sunny day greeted the runners for the last of the Today's Runners series at Staunton Park. Any hopes of a reasonably dry course were quickly dashed when Tony Allen, who had already been for a canter around the park, greeted us with his legs covered in mud!
There was a good turn out of Stubbies, 8 ladies and 17 men and for the ladies, Penny Forse who has clearly returned to form was first scorer in 3rd place followed by Bev Lavery 4th who is also running very well this year.
Louise James had a cracking run and was final scorer for the ladies in 10th place followed by Suzy MacGregor in 15th who is a regular Tuesday/Thursday session stalwart.
For the men it was great to see Chris Hall and Ray Gunner back from injury, they produced excellent results of 7th and 9th respectively. Close behind them was Tim Crumpton in 17th place who also ran a stormer on the back of a 2 hour bike ride the day before.
Next in was 'man of the match' Malcolm Lavery, who lost his shoe with well over 1 mile to go and carried on running across mud and stony tracks. If that wasn't enough, he then fell flat on his face, picked himself up and carried on to finish in 26th place.
Mike Bell, who witnessed all this, followed in Malcolm's wake to be the fifth scorer in 29th place.
