Today's Runner, Hart - 21st January 2007
BEV Lavery sparkled in her first appearance in a Stubbington vest with seventh place at the latest round of the Today's Runner league race at Hart.
Bev led the ladies into equal second place at Lord Wandsworth College in Long Sutton near Basingstoke. The race was staged over a tough, two-lap 8km course made up of muddy, undulating woodland tracks and paths within the grounds of the college.
The ladies were bolstered with four Stubbies making their Today's Runner debuts. With the ever-reliable Penny Forse coming home in 13th, Lou James finishing 15th in her first outing, and Suzie MacGregor, after a brief lay-off from running, stormed back with an encouraging 32nd in her Today's Runner debut.
Also enjoying a first ever Today's Runner was Annie Tomlinson who managed to keep her pink, long-sleeved top still pink at the finish, despite the muddy conditions. Annie placed 54th, just two places ahead of team captain Chris Haskell, as the ladies finished equal second with Midhurst, behind winners Hart Road Runners.
The men finished 10th behind winners Fleet & Crookham, as Stubbington moved up one place to eighth overall with two races left.
Mr Muddy Shoes Andy Simpson was the first home in ninth followed by Mike Bell in 48th and Malcolm Lavery in 56th.
Chris Furnell lost a shoe in the mud when he was well placed in the top 20, but had to wait for most of the runners to go by before he could find it. Then the adrenalin kicked in and he stormed past most of the field.
The next round of the Today's Runner takes place on February 18th at Manor Farm Country Park in Bursledon. This is Stubbington's host race, so Glen Street is looking for marshalls on the day. If you can help, then please contact Glen on gstreet@gresham-computing.com
