Today's Runner, Queen Elizabeth Country Park
A VERITABLE feast of 33 Stubbies turned out for the first Today’s Runner cross country event of the season.
Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield was the venue for the race which was organized by Pompey Joggers.
Running conditions were perfect, with the weather quite mild and it was slightly damp underfoot.
“What a turn-out,” reflected cross country captain, Tim Crumpton, for the race around the picturesque surroundings.
He was one of five Stubbies including Susie MacGregor, Penny Forse, Andy Simpson, and Ray Gunner, who had competed in the Hampshire League fixture the day before in Chichester.
There, as in Petersfield, Andy Simpson was the first to reach the opening corner on both days.
Among those making their Stubbington debuts were 17-year-olds Danny Ewing and James Lee.
Andy was the first Stubby home in fifth, followed by Ray Gunner in eighth, with Mike Harper 26th, Tim Crumpton 44th and Jim Sullivan completed the first team scoring in 66th.
For the women, Bev Lavery and Penny Forse were 10th and 11th, while Susie and Lucy Simmonds followed behind in 14th and 15th, with Lou James 18th, to make it a great scoring day for both men’s and women’s teams.
