Stubbington Green Runners

The Beast

ALL it took was a large bacon roll and lots of brown sauce to get the Kimbernator around The Beast. A total of 480 runners took part in the 13-mile multi-terrain event which starts and finishes at Corfe Castle.

A day earlier, Nick Kimber had taken on the hills of the Overton 5, the first Hampshire Road Race League event of the season, and come away with a new personal best for five miles of 33min 41sec.

Twenty four hours later, Nick headed for deepest darkest Dorset to take on the formidable Beast. He was joined by Stubbington team-mate Marcus Lee for the run. "Both Marcus and I had a really good run with excellent running conditions," explained Nick.

"I felt a bit tired after Overton the day before, however a large bacon roll with lots of brown sauce, just before the start seemed to do the trick."

Marcus pulled away from Nick at about the seven-mile mark and finished in 127th place with a time of 1hr 51min 42sec, and Nick placed in 137th with 1:52.55, which was ten minutes quicker then last year. "I am happy with that," said Nick.

Mike Grist from Poole Runners won the event in a time of 1:27.29 and Lynda Faulkner from the Dorset Doddlers, who came 27th overall, was the leading lady in 1:37.18.
