The Stickler

Alasdair Ewing

TEN miles of running in driving rain and strong gales including 1,500 feet of climbing in the breathtaking Purbecks... what a challenge!

The adverse conditions, including four tough hills, did not faze a quartet of Stubbies who more than did themselves justice at The Stickler in Dorset.

The race attracted 408 runners to Shillingstone Primary School near Blandford Forum who headed along the infamous Stickle Path, less than a mile from the start with 500 feet of a one in three climb!

Now in its 11th year and organised by Dorset Doddlers, the race was won by Pete Roper from Votwo.co.uk in a time of 1hr 4min 10sec, which is 6min 21sec miling.

Alasdair Ewing was the first Stubby home to finish ninth in 1:11.06, which accounts for just over seven minute miling.

Team-mate Eric Beck finished in midfield with a time of 1:37.14 for 228th place, Graham Watts clocked 1:49.29 for 327th and wife Caroline was 399th for a time of 2:05.07.
