Tadworth 10

IT was Derby day for Dave King as he continued his running trek around the British Isles.

The Tadworth 10 on Epsom Downs in Surrey was race number three in his year-long adventure to run around the British Isles in 80 races.

"At the start it was blooming wet and blustery," said Dave who finished 112th in a time of 1hr 15min 28sec.

"I started off wearing my Stubby vest over a top and a woolly hat because I was worried that it could get nasty and cold. But on the second circuit I was so hot I had to strip off my top and throw it to my dad who was standing by Tattenham Corner.

"I think I gave a few runners a shock with my striptease. One of the runners said they hadn't seen a hairy back like that since they had taken their kids to the baboon cage at London Zoo!"

The event attracted 710 runners on a two-lap 10-miler starting and finishing on the famous Epsom race course. It was held over a mixture of grassy terrain, road and woodland, and included two tough hills.

First home was Kevin Quinn from Real Runners, which is apparently a group of elite runners who include in their band Mo Farrah, the European cross country champion.

The 27-year-old won in a time of 57min 27sec, ahead of Denmead Striders' Nick Baker.  Lucilla Andereucci, an unattached runner, was the first lady to finish in 1hr 4min 56sec.
