Sussex Beacon Half Marathon
OH I do like to be beside the seaside! So it proved for Gilbert Yeates and Simon Holford who took part in the popular Sussex Beacon Half Marathon. Based in Brighton, the race started and finished in Madeira Drive.
Organisers intorduced a new route this year which was based entirely on road with the potential for faster times. It took runners through the town centre, past the Pavilion, through the Lanes and along the seafront.
Simon Holford, who has been working hard putting in the miles for his London Marathon assault, took it easy with a steady time of 1hr 46min 50sec for 1138th place, while Gilbert chcked in with a time of 1:50.19 for 1603rd.
Chichester Runners' James Baker led home a field of 3,202 runners to win in a time of 1:08.33. Top lady was the 45th placed Gill Wheeler from Hailsham Harriers in a time of 1:21.38
