Studland Stampede

Studland Stampede

STUDLAND in Dorset is famous for its nudist beach, but there wasn’t much bare flesh being exposed during the annual Studland Stampede.

Conditions were tough, with rain and wind sweeping across the coastline for the 12km race which starts on the beach, heads inland over Agglestone Rock, and then takes in undulating heathland plus sandy paths before a final 3km along the beach.

John and Anne Fairhurst were among 135 runners who took part in the third running of this race.
Anne, who had turned up to the race simply to spectate and cheer on John, was eventually persuaded to compete and found herself getting lost. She finished 135th in 1hr 40min 51sec, while John placed 93rd in 1:13.48.

The race was won by Graham Books in 48min 25sec and Elizabeth Hunt was the first lady in 1:03.26.
