Stroud Half Marathon
LIZ Hall has her sights set on running the London Marathon next year and is beginning to put in the miles.
Last month she ran 2hrs 14mins for the New Forest Half Marathon, joined Glen Street’s Thursday evening speed sessions and dropped 10 minutes on that time at the Stroud Half Marathon in Gloucestershire.
She clocked 2hrs 4mins 57sec in the race which wound its way through the Cotswolds. That was good enough for 1,161st from a field of around 2,000 runners.
This was the 26th running of the Stroud Half Maraton which is organised by Stroud & District AC. Despite the undulating nature of the Cotswolds, the course had a few climbs but nothing too nasty.
Dave King also ran in Stroud, his 66th race of the year, and clocked 1:37.04 for 403rd place. Poole Runners’ Williard Chinhanhu, a recent winner of the Chichester 10km, took line honours in 1:06.51, with Wendy Nicholls from Cirencester AC the first lady to finish in 1:15.58 and 15th overall.
The day before, Dave took part in the Bushy Park Time Trial near Hampton Court – one of the most popular races in the UK according to this year’s Runner’s World.
A field of 336 runners took part in the Saturday morning race, which started at 9am on a cold and misty Bushy Park. The parkland race took in one lap of the picturesque course, and Dave clocked a time of 20min 54sec for 69th place.
That race was won by Olly Laws from Newham & Essex Beagles AC in 15.39, with Rachel Elliott from Team Kennet the top lady in 18.01 and 11th overall. Pics here.
