Sleepwater Marathon
THE Sleepwalker Midnight Marathon in the Brecon Beacons is not for the faint-hearted.
It is a 20-mile trail race with a 2,000 foot climb in some of the bleakest surroundings - and at night.
The first-ever midnight marathon was staged in South Wales at the weekend based around the village of Talybont on Usk and starting at 9pm.
Stubbington's Dave King took part in the race which involved a circular route through the Brecon Beacons and back to Talybont over a mixture of trail, mountain climbing, forest track, road and even a canal towpath towards the end.
Conditions were fairly kind on the date of the Autumnal Equinox. Dave finished 11th from a field of 50 runners in a time of 3hrs 54mins, with the winner, Jules Carter from the Cardiff-based Les Croupiers club, finishing well ahead in a time of 2hrs 56mins.
