Salomon South Downs Marathon
EARLIER this month, the South Downs played host to the epic South Downs Relay which attracted three Stubbington teams, but at the weekend just one lone Stubbie turned out for the Salomon South Downs Marathon.
Andy Willis was the man in green finishing 296th in a time of 7hrs 28min 53secs. He was 43rd in the Vet40 category.
The race was won by Stuart Mills from Brighton & Hove AC in a time of 2:51.07, a good quarter of an hour ahead of the nearest runner.
Annabelle Stearns from Invicta East Kent AC was the best placed female runner. She came home in a time of 3:22.03 for eighth overall.
A total of 297 people took part in a challenging run which started at the White Ways Country Park near Arundel Castle and runs a short distance on the Monarch Way before joining the South Downs Way. Runners then headed west towards the finish at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield.
