Stubbington Green Runners

Salisbury Half Marathon

Gordon Westley

GORDON Westley avoided the crowds of Southsea and settled for a wet weekend with a few firemen in Salisbury.

While most racing attention was turned to the Great South Run, the Stubby joined a field of 360 runners for the 10th running of the race.

Gordon finished 151st in a time of 1hr 51min 27sec for a race which was won by Colin Gell from Sale Harriers in a time of 1:18.40.

Suzanne Clare from Corsham Running Club was the leading lady runner with a time of 1:33.14 for 42nd place overall. The race incorporated the UK Fire Service Half Marathon Championships.

The race started and finished next to Salisbury's fire station and besides the Five Rivers Leisure Centre taking a route on quiet country roads to the north of the city.

Apart from one testing hill at five mile, the race route was a comfortable run following the River Avon and which took in some wonderful views despite the rainy weather.
