RR 10 Preview
THE second RR10 race of the summer takes place at Deerleap Enclosure, Ashurst, near Totton on Wednesday, May 2.
The race is organised by Totton Running Club and features a one-lap run around the forest on gravel track and some grass/mud tracks. There are some small slopes, but the ground is not suitable for spikes.
The organisers have advised runners to bring insect repellent since the area is notorious for them at this time of the year.
There are no toilet/changing facilities at Deepleap Inclosure, and the race starts at 7.15pm. There is parking at the Otter and Owl Sanctuary. The post-race pub is the Forest Inn at Ashurst where they stop serving meals at 9pm.
There are still places for Stubbington runners to take part, so do get in touch by contacting Mark Le Gassick at marklegass@sgrac.net After the terrific turn-out for the opener at Royal Victoria Country Park, it would be great to get another good gathering. If you can arrange to share lifts, or even offer a lift, even better.
To get to the race venue: Head down the M27 to junction 2. Take the A326 towards Hythe and then turn off at the junction signposted A35 to Lyndhurst. From A35 going towards Ashurst, take the left hand turn into Deerleap Lane signposted for Longdown Dairy Farm and Otter and Owl Sanctuary. Follow this road for approximately 1½ miles at which point you will see signs for the Otter and Owl Sanctuary and RR10 car parking. You will be directed into car park at this point.
