RR10 Dates
THIS summer's RR10 dates still have to be finalised, but if you've got pencils at the ready here is a provisional list of the cross country events:
Wednesday, April 18th: Royal Victoria Country Park, Netley (7pm start).
Wednesday, May 2nd: Deerleap Inclosure, Ashurst, Totton (by the Otter & Owl Sanctuary) (7.15pm).
Wednesday, May 16th: Wilverley Inclosure, Nr Sway, Lymington (7.30pm).
Wednesday, May 30th: Either the Rose Bowl @ West End or Longdown Inclosure, Ashurst (7.30pm) - venue to be confirmed.
Wednesday, June 6th: Itchen Valley Country Park, West End (7.30pm).
Wednesday, June 20th: Cadland Park, Hardley (7.30pm).
Wednesday, July 4th: Manor Farm Country Park, Hedge End (7.30pm). (This is Stubbington's host race with Eastleigh Running Club where we provide marshalls - you cannot run!)
Wednesday, July 20th: Janesmoor Pond, Stoney Cross, New Forest (7.30pm).
Wednesday, August 1st: Stoke Park Woods, Fair Oak (7.30pm).
Wednesday, August 15th: IBM, Hursley Park (7.15pm).
This year, the RR10 committee, fearing that Stubbington would swamp the race venue with upto 100 runners for each event, have wisely decided to cap our figure at 30. Despite the expected clamour from excited Stubbies to run in these fun evening cross country races of up to five miles, if you want to run then there should be no problems if you want to take part.
Just turn up on the night, but if you can let Dave King or Mark Le Gassick know in advance of each race whether you will be taking part, that would be much appreciated.
As has been written many times before about the RR10, if you have never raced before, or have perhaps been put off from racing, then the RR10 series is a guaranteed friendly and sociable way to race for fun with others. Many tried it for the first time last summer, and will be returning again. So go on, give it a try - first race in April at nearby Royal Victoria Country Park.
Race diaries up until the end of May are now on the Stubbington website, but here are a few races later on in the year for you to mark your cards.
There is the annual Miles of Miles race at Crestwood School in Eastleigh on Thursday, June 28th. This is a 10 leg, one-mile relay, which is held every year. Eastleigh won it last year, so are hosting the event. Each team has to field a minimum of three ladies in the 10 person squad. If anyone in the club is interested in getting a team together, they should speak to Mark Le Gassick.
And the New Forest Marathon and Half Marathon on September 16th have been given earlier start times to avoid traffic congestion. The marathon, which will incorporate the British Masters Athletic Association Marathon Championships, starts at 9.30am, with the half marathon at 10am.
Now you might think it ridiculous in February to post these events in advance, but as crazy as it sounds, the two New Forest events are sold out well in advance - the New Forest half closes before the summer holidays, and the little known but very popular Christchurch Christmas 10km also sells out in the summer too.
