Stubbington Green Runners

Ropley 10k

ENTRIES have opened for this year's Ropley 10km road race, which is proving to be one of the most popular races not on the mainstream south coast circuit.

Ropley is situated just off the A31 near Alresford. Last year, the event attracted a total of 428 entrants, with 125 registering on the day.

The men's course record was broken last year by Toby Lambert of Alton Runners in a time of 30mins 56secs.  The women's course stands at 35.22, set by Debbie Percival of Medway AC in 2001.

This year's race takes place on Sunday, May 27th and is organised by Southampton Running Club. They are hoping to reach the race limit of 500 entrants.

There will also be two children's fun runs, both managed by the Ropley Youth Club; a 500 metre dash for under-8s and a 3km fun run on road and field for the 9-14 year-olds.  The sports pavilion will be hosting refreshments and a bar, supplemented by a hog roast.

Entry Fees for the main 10k event are £8 for UKA club runners and the closing date for postal entries is May 16th. Entries will be allowed on the day, subject to a £2 surcharge and to the race limit being reached.  Entries on the day will close promptly at 10.45am.

A free t-Shirt is guaranteed to all pre-registered runners. Prizes will be awarded to first three men and women, along with the first three men's and women's teams - with four to score for the men and three for the ladies.

There will also be age category winners and a prize if either of the course records are broken. For more information, log onto www.ropley10k.co.uk where entrants can review information about the race such as details of the course profile, history, previous winners and, most importantly, entry forms.
