Not The Roman IX, 28 January 2007
THE last time Dave King and Liz Hall saw a bit of culture it was green and mouldy, and was dressed as well out-of-date tub of Philadelphia cheese lying at the bottom of their refrigerator.
So the culture vultures headed to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, at the weekend to take part in the Not The Roman IX.
This popular race, organised by Stratford-upon-Avon Athletic Club, attracted some 700 runners on a rural 12km course around the lanes outside of this pretty Warwickshire town.
The race evolved from an event known as the Roman 9, and uses much of the same course, including a thrilling downhill run towards the end.
Dave had a stormer - it must have been the Jaffa cakes he ate heading up the M40, coming home 92nd overall in 52 minutes, while Liz followed in 1hr 7min and was pleased with her time.
Next stop for Dave on his fund-raising running tour around the British Isles is celubrious Watford - for the Watford Half Marathon this Sunday.
