Upcoming Races
Winchester 10k (Race for AAIR)
This Winchester 10k road race is on Sunday 8th July, and is run by Winchester & District AC, in conjunction with Southampton Hospital-based charity, Asthma, Allergy and Inflammation Research (AAIR), having formerly been Hope for Winchester.
As well as the 10k, there's also three Fun Runs - a 500m (U7s), 1k (school Y3-Y6), and 2k (school Y7 - Y11). Everyone will receive a medal and goodie bag, and there are individual, veteran, and team prizes to be won in the 10k.
Entry forms are available at www.wadac.org.uk, or from www.aaircharity.org.
Miles of Miles Relay
This year's Miles of Miles Relay is being organised by Eastleigh Running Club, and takes place at 7pm on Thursday 28th June, at Crestwood School, Shakespeare Road, Eastleigh.
There's no limit on the number of teams a club can enter, a team consists of 10 runners who each run a mile a leg, and each team must supply their own time keeper to record their team's times. Each team must contain a minimum of two female runners, and no team member can run more than once for their team.
The final extravaganza will involve a 400m relay with the first leg being a classic egg and spoon race, the second leg will be a 3-legged race, the 3rd leg will involve balancing a bean bag on the head, and the final leg will be a sack race. To hinder participants further, each team will have to carry some bizarre object as a baton, to be revealed on the night.
The event costs £10 per team, and all money raised will be donated to charity. If anyone is interested in organising a team, please email Mark Le Gassick (marklegass@sgrac.net) for further details.
Running4Women.com
Later this year there are two women-only 8km events organised by Running4Women.com, in conjunction with the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity.
The Windsor 8k is on Saturday 29th September, and starts at 12pm in Windsor Great Park (it also finishes back in the park). The Brighton 8k is on Sunday 14th October, and starts at 10am, in Madeira Drive.
If anyone is interested in either of these two events, please contact Mark Le Gassick (marklegass@sgrac.net) for an entry pack.
