Leeds Abbey Dash
THERE’S nothing like a bit of Yorkshire Pudding on a Sunday, and Dave King got himself a roasting in Leeds.
The Stubby took part in the popular Leeds Abbey Dash which attracted 6,000 runners over the popular 10km course. The race, organised by Abbey Runners and which is now in its 23rd year, began in the city centre on a road course out of Leeds to the edge of Kirkstall Abbey and then back.
The race also featured an inter-area match between regions throughout the UK, and City of Portsmouth AC’s Gerry North was there managing the south’s team. Ian Boneham, running for the Royal Mail, delivered a race victory in a first class time of 29min 30sec, while Aly Dixon from Chester-le-Street won the women’s race in 33.41.
Dave finished 648th with a time of 42min 34sec. “I was really pleased with the race because I’ve not been able to train at all, and I was dosed up with painkillers. So I’m running well on drugs!”
