THREE races in six days - Stubby Dave King rattled off a busy schedule of races in the past week which took him to Birmingham, Devon and Stonehenge to run with a dog!

At Birmingham, Dave joined 1,094 other runners for the Dudley Kingswinford 10km race. This is one of the biggest evening races in the country and which has been running for more than 20 years.

On a crisp, early summer's evening, Dave finished 241st in a time of 45min 03sec, running with Neil Fereday from the Dudley Kingswinford AC who has competed in all 21 of the 10km races.

Forty eight hours later, Dave was in Devon for the Round The Tree 3. Based in Torrington in North Devon, the race forms part of the town's May Day celebrations which includes May Pole dancing and a carnival through the sleepy west country town.

The race is steeped in history, consisting of a long downhill run to the River Torridge, along the river bank and around the tree - now a marker in a field after the old tree died a few years back - and then a long uphill haul back up to the town. Dave took 21min 36sec for the 2.87-mile run to finish midfield.

And then on Sunday, it was the turn of the Neolithic Cani-X - a four-mile run from Bustards Inn on Salisbury Plain to Stonehenge with a dog. Dave managed to borrow a labrador, Boykie, off friends Rick and Deanna from the Isle of Wight.

At one stage Dave, with Rick running alongside, lay in third place, but at half way Boykie needed a drink and a rest, and in the end they had to settle for seventh in 32 minutes.
