Isle of Wight Fell Running Championship

ZIPPY Grice made his annual pilgrimage across the Solent for the Isle of Wight Fell Running Festival.

The Stubbington runner, fresh from victory in the Stansted Slog last weekend, placed fifth overall at the end of three races in two days.

The opening race was the St Boniface Fell Run on Saturday morning, a three-mile opener with a 775 foot ascent. Zippy finished fourth in a time of 18min 27sec, in a race won by Dean Lacy from Cambridge Harriers in 17:02.

Later in the afternoon, Zippy joined a field of 110 runners for the Ventnor Horseshoe, a seven-mile race with a 1500 foot ascent. Once again, the Stubby runner placed fourth in a time of 56min 17sec, and Dean Lacy won by more than a minute in 52.48.

Also taking part in the race was fellow Stubby Nick Crane who came 78th in a time of 1hr 21min 12sec.

The third and final race of the Isle of Wight Fell Running Championship was the Wroxall Round, a 13-miler with a 1500 ascent. Zippy checked in with eighth place in 1hr 30min 7sec, as Dean Lacy ensured a clean sweep of wins with a time of 1:22.32.
