Stubbington Green Runners

Hayling Billy

Jon Leigh

HERE'S one for the statisticians, but is this a club record? - five Stubbies, not all related, with the same surname, and in one case with a different spelling, all running in the same race?

Jon Leigh, Marcus Lee, Andy Lee, James Lee and Jennie Lee wore the proud green for the Hayling Billy 5 on Hayling Island in a race organised by Victory AC.

For one Lee in particular, Marcus, he knocked off a huge chunk of his personal best over the five mile distance to clock a time of 34min 12sec - a new best by 20 seconds. That earned Marcus 48th place in the race.

Jon Leigh and Paul Hammond ran toe to toe for much of the race, before Paul found a bit extra at the end to chase down a runner from Victory AC and finish 32nd in 32.45, with Jon 34th in 32.52.

Another member of the Lee clan, though unrelated to Jon, was Andy, who chipped in with 53rd place in 34.57 followed by James Lee in 63rd with 36.40.

John Simister checked in just under the 40 minute mark with 39.41 and 114th, with Gilbert Yeates just over a minute behind in 40.52 for 127th.

Julia Hunter was Stubbington's first female runner to finish. She was 171st overall in 48.09, followed by Jennie Lee in 50.27 for 183rd and Sue Simister with 184th in 50.39.

A total of 198 runners took part in the race which was won by that man James Baker of Chichester Runners in 25.27. Karrie Blake from Denmead Striders was the leading lady in 30.21 and 21st overall.
