STUBBINGTON’S men made a promising start in their promotion bid from the Hampshire Cross Country League.

Relegated from the top flight last season, skipper Tim Crumpton is plotting a course for a return to Division One at the first attempt and was pleased with the opening meet of the season at Farley Mount near Winchester.

The boys lie second after the opener thanks to 32nd from Zippy Grice, 52nd from Andy Simpson, 84th from Ray Gunner, 102nd from Noel Charlton and 127th from the evergreen Mike Harper. Tim was missing the services of both Mark Le Gassick and Chris Hall who were on holiday.

The men’s race was won by Stubbington second claim runner, Andy Vernon, who was wearing the colours of Aldershot, Farnham & District AC.

For the ladies, Susie MacGregor led home the women in 47th, with Penny Forse just on her tail in 49th and Margie Pritchard making the third scoring runner in 84th.
