Race Diary, October
THE BUPA Great South Run doesn't have to be the be-all and end-all of all races. This year's event is already a 16,000 sell-out in Portsmouth on Sunday, October 28th, although they may be some charity places around if you want to run.
But at £30 a throw it is not cheap, and if you are looking for other races that weekend, then there are plenty around.
There's the Studland Stampede near Poole in Dorset, a fantastic 12km along sandy beaches and coastal tracks.
Nearby in Blandford Forum there is the Stickler. The race is now in its 11th year, and features 1,500 ft of climbing including the infamous Stickle Path less than a mile from the start with a 500 ft one in three climb!
Closer to home on October 28th, there is the very popular and well organised Fordingbridge Fire Station 10, and staying with the fireman's theme, the City of Salisbury Half Marathon starts and finishes from Salisbury Fire Station with money's going to charity.
These races and more are included in October's race diary, which will soon be updated to include cross country dates once they are to hand.
