D-Day 10k

IT was ladies night for Stubbington's women at the D-Day 10km in Portsmouth.

Lynne Speirs and Bev Lavery stormed to top 10 finishes at the prestigious event which started and finished at the Mountbatten Centre.

Lynne crossed the finish line in seventh spot in a time of 43min 23sec, with Bev just behind her in the finishing straight to place eighth in 43.48. Both ladies finished second in their age group categories.

With Lisa Edwards finishing 50th in 54.57, Stubbington's ladies' team claimed third place behind winners Winchester & District AC and second-placed Denmead Striders.

Liz Hall, who placed 66th in 57.38 and was eighth Vet40, was the third and final scorer for the vets who also came third behind winners Denmead Striders. Winchester & District AC's Kathy Bailey won the women's race in 37.12.

A total of 371 runners took part in the race which was won by Chichester Runners' James Baker in 31.56, from City of Leeds AC's Tim Crossland.

The first Stubbington runner to finish was Zac Conaty, who was 110th in 45.07, Simon Bean followed in 167th position in 49.37 (Vet 40, 34th), and Peter Adams claimed sixth in the Vet 70 age group, which was good enough for 213th in the men's race with 53.11
