Brown Willy
| THE race has begun for Dave King, who kicked off his round Britain running challenge on New Year's Eve in Derbyshire. Dave, who was joined by fellow Stubby Liz Hall, competed in the 2km Bryan Clifton Memorial Midnight Challenge. This starts at 11.57pm in the village of Milford in the Derwent Valley, and is a brisk out and back race. A total of 49 runners took part in the race which attracted runners from Edinburgh, Liverpool, Merseyside and the midlands. Dave finished 11th in 9min 18sec, and Liz was 26th in 11:48. The race was won by Adam Rollitt from Ashbourne Running Club in Derbyshire in 7:22. Dave and Liz then drove through the night to Cornwall for the Brown Willy 6 race which starts and finishes at Jamaica Inn in Bolventor. The 6.8-mile race is a tough run over boggy moorland and features a stiff climb to the top of the 1,370ft Brown Willy. A total of 250 runners took part in the tricky race which despite starting with a bright day, finished with a downpour and at one stage runners had to brave hailstones on the remote course. Dave crossed the finish line just outside the top 100 in a time of 66min 22sec, and Liz ran well for a time of 1hr 40mins. Next stop for Dave is the Tadworth 10 mile race in Surrey this Sunday. |
