Andy Reading 10km

Dave King and Jon Leigh

JON Leigh and Dave King managed to get out of the Christmas shopping this Sunday by choosing to run out of the county.

Jon regularly takes part in the Andy Reading Memorial 10km Race, which is hosted by Alchester running Club and Bicester Athletics Club in Oxfordshire, in memory of Andy Reading, a former member of Alchester.

The course is a flat 10km on local roads around the village of Chesterton, near Bicester, and the route takes in RAF Weston on the Green. The race started and finished at the Bicester Sports Association HQ in Chesterton, and profits from the race went to the Helen and Douglas House Hospice.

A year ago, Jon clocked 42min 42sec for the distance. On Sunday, Jon had a good run in windy conditions to record a time of 41min 48sec.

It was also windy in Nottinghamshire for the Keyworth Turkey Trot Half Marathon, which is held in the village of Keyworth just outside of Nottingham.

Dave finished 195th from a field of 762 runners in a time of 1hr 38min 7sec. The winner was Tim Hartley from Notts AC in 1:08.10 and Lisa Palmer from Heanor Running Club in Derby, was the top lady in 1:23.04. The top prizewinners all received turkeys!
