Inter-County Cross Country Championships in Nottingham

BECCI Gough rounded off the cross country season in some style with a superb performance at the Inter-County Cross Country Championships in Nottingham.

The teenager, who trains with Penny Forse on a Monday evening at Whiteley, finished  fifth in the under-17 race with an inspired run which left her fourth overall in the UK Cross Challenge Series - this comes on the back of a 19th placing at the nationals. Becci, who runs first claim for Team Southampton, finished 36 seconds behind winner Kirsty Hamilton from Devon in the 5km race.

One Stubbington runner not in action in Nottingham was Andy Vernon, winner of the junior men's title at the National Cross Country Championships last month.

Illness before the weekend hampered his preparations, so he decided to duck out of the Inter-Counties. Instead, Andy, who now runs first claim for Aldershot, Farnham & District, is preparing for the World Student Cross Country Championships in Algeria later this month.
