Wokingham Half Marathon
SEAN Jones joined 1,681 runners to compete at the very competitive Wokingham Half Marathon.
Such was the quality of the Berkshire race, celebrating its 21st year, that the first 250 runners finished under 1hr 30min for the 13.1-mile course.
Huw Lobb from Bedford & County AC, won the race in a rapidfire 1hr 6min 7sec, five seconds ahead of second-placed John Mc Farlane (Thames Hare & Hounds). Melanie Ellis from Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers was the first woman to finish, 31st overall, in 1:17.46.
Sean can reflect on the fact that in most other half marathons, he would have finished several hundred places higher The Stubbington runner finished 700th in a time of 1hr 43min 29sec, which is very useful eight minute miling.
