Victory 5 Preview
THE Victory 5 is the new kid on the block this weekend for the Hampshire Road Race League.
The popular five-miler, which starts and finishes at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth, has traditionally attracted a quality field from all over the country for one of the fastest runs over this distance.
Now in its 60th year and organised by City of Portsmouth AC, the race has frequently registered in the Runner's World top 100 races, and this Sunday for the first time for some while, it makes its debut as a Hampshire Road Race League event.
GB international Rob Denmark holds the course record at 22min 44sec. There are no entries on the day, but a strong Stubbington contingent is expected to feature for the third HRRL event in three weeks.
Start time is 1.30pm, and there are no entries on the day, although you might want to check with City of Portsmouth beforehand if they are full. The website is: http://www.portsmouthathletic.co.uk/cpac_content.html
After last weekend's Hayling 10, Stubbington's women sit proudly on top of Division 2, with a clear eight point lead over Gosport Road Runners, and with Hardley Runners in third. The womens B team lie seventh in a division headed by Winchester.
For the men, even though the big guns were missing at Hayling - a result which in the end Stubbington is likely to drop with the best eight results counting, the A team hold fifth in Division 1, although leaders Winchester and Southampton Running Club have already made a bolt from the main pack. For the B team, they lie sixth overall in a division headed by Southampton RC.
