Stubbington Green Runners

Track and Field Report

ANOTHER successful season was brought to a close at Portsmouth with a comprehensive win for Stubbington in their final Southern League Track and Field Meet of the summer.

There were too many excellent performances to list all of them but here are a few of the best, writes Mike Harper.

The club record to go was in the 400 relay where the A team, obviously realising they had to pull out all the stops to beat a very strong Stub B quartet, took a fraction of a second off the old record.

The foursome of Lewis Banner, Dan Dell, Jamille Hogg and Mike Williams won the event in a time of 3min 38.5sec.

Another outstanding performance came in the first track race of the day when Lewis Banner ran his first ever 400m hurdles and won the A string race in 65.7sec beating Andy Vernon's old under-17 record in the process. Ryan Banner won the B string in a quick time of 68.4sec, eclipsing Oli Williams' previous under-17 time.

Another superb run was from Jamille Hogg in the 100m saw his time of 11.6sec equal Mike Williams' time. Tom Beagan's club record of 11.5sec must be in serious danger next year.

Also at the Alexandra Stadium, Dan Dell (200m), Ray Gunner and Tony Allen (steeplechase), Lewis Banner (long jump) and Dave Woolcott (hammer), all improved their own times on the top five best club performance records.

At the end of the meeting, Stubbington finished on 152pts from Haslemere with 116.5pts, Team Kennet with 105pts, and Cornish visitors Newquay with 85.5pts.

The club finished mid-table in 9th place in Division 3 West. Met Police and Wessex/Bath/Salisbury were promoted. Team Kennett and Bournemouth were relegated.

I would just like to thank Dave Marrott, Mike Williams, Mark Le Gassick, and Stew Shaw, who have not already been mentioned, who have been consistently reliable performers throughout the season for us.

Finally, massive thanks to Mike Clarke, Brian Cooper, Martin Wellstead, Kay Hogg and Chris Munro who have all helped us tremendously during the season.
