Today's Runner, Q E Country Park - 12th Nov 2006
CHRIS FURNELL made his Stubbington Green debut with a fine top 30 finish at the Today's Runner event in Petersfield.
Chris placed 24th and was the club's third scorer, finishing just ahead of team-mate Tim Crumpton in 27th, who was running his second race in two days. On Saturday, Tim had competed at the Hampshire League Cross Country event at Goodwood, but unperturbed lined up at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park for the tricky five-miler.
Another one to complete a weekend cross country double was Ray Gunner, who once again ran superbly for third place and the club's highest finisher. Last month, Ray also finished third in the Today's Runner opener at Midhurst.
Chris Hall finished not far behind Ray in fifth, and Graham James made the fifth scorer in 35th place.
John Tussler was back home from Spain for the race, and it was good to see him in fine fettle to finish 120th .
There was also a fine turn-out of females for the event. Penny Forse, who was ninth at Midhurst, came home in 16th , also a day after running at Goodwood in the Hampshire League. Kay Sadler was 51st and Chris Haskell completed the scoring in 55th place.
Mike Bell, who came home in 52nd , said it was a good race. "Conditions were superb," he said. "The course was blooming hard. You always forget how many hills there are. It was good to see Tussy again"
