Stubbington Green Runners & AC

Today's Runner, Farnham - 17th December 2006

JOSEPH had his technicolour dreamcoat, Stubbington's Tony Allen is notorious for his technicolour shorts. Now after a frustrating summer off through injury, those garish shorts are back and Tony made a winning return at the latest Today's Runner event.

He led home the field at The Bourne in Farnham, Surrey to win the third race in the series.

The hilly, sandy 4.8 mile course was superb and offered stunning views of the countryside for the runners.

Ray Gunner, who was third in the opening two races, would have expected to have finished close on Tony's heels. But Ray was running with a sore back, so ran with his 16-year-old son Ryan, with dad 80th and son 71st to complete the team scoring.

The men's team finished ninth with Tim Crumpton 39th , Mike Bell 62nd and Marcus Lee 68th.

Farnham Runners won the men's event with Portsmouth Joggers second and Fleet & Crookham third.

There was disappointment for the women's team when Penny Forse twisted an ankle on the second hill and was forced to pull out of the race. Penny would have scored highly and pushed the ladies' squad into a stronger position. Verity Wright had the honour of leading the ladies home in 56th, followed by Chris Haskell who was two places behind, and Tracie Jarvis in 69th .

The ladies finished 15th, with Liss ladies winning - making it three out of three for them, Farnham second and Midhurst third.

Overall Stubbington were 12th with Farnham Runners winning the event.

This leaves Stubbington in ninth place in the overall competition, with Liss Runners first and Farnham Runners second in a tight battle to claim the overall title with three races left.
