Thruxton 10k, 16th July 2006
THEY were under starters orders and off at the Thruxton Race Circuit for the ever-popular 10km race which is jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Andover and Andover Athletic Club.
It was the seventh year of the event, which was held on a steaming hot Sunday, and the flat, smooth Tarmac surface is reckoned to lead to some fast times.
Ben Whittaker led home the Stubbington contingent in what was to be the first of three races in a week. He was 13th in a time of 41min 58sec. The race was won by Dan Duke in a time of 34:47, with west country runner, Shona Crombie-Hicks the top woman in 37:41. Wife Rachel was 61st in a time of 56:07.
The first person to finish was a wheelchair entry, Andy Cheek, who took 30min 30sec to finish the course.
