Stubbington Green Runners

Steyning Stinger - 5th March 2006

YOU couldn't separate them at the finish, as Stubbington team-mates Jane Butler and Kathy McKain both crossed the line together at the Steyning Stinger where a free breakfast awaited them!

The dynamic duo finished this gruelling half marathon in a time of 2hrs 29min 36min for joint 169th place.

James Walker from Steyning AC won the race in a course record of 1:23.05, with Jo Hesketh, also from Steyning AC, the leading female runner in 1:50.20 for 39th overall. One of the incentives for the event was a free breakfast served to all fnishers.

A field of 247 runners took part in the race, now in its fifth year, which is based at Steyning Grammar School in West Sussex and takes in a cross country hill run across the South Downs between Worthing and Shoreham-by-Sea.

The half marathon runs alongside the demanding full marathon race, which includes four stings at the top of the Downs - the half marathon contained two stings. Stuart Mills from Brighton & Hove AC won the marathon in 2:59.13 with Jackie Barker from Lingfield Running Club the leading lady in 4:30.40.
