Sports and Exercise Science
SO what strategies do you adopt when coping with the rigours of a marathon? Is it all about fitness and conditioning, or maybe it is mind over matter, dreaming of sunkissed beaches and the cast of Baywatch to take yourself away from the pain of a 26-milers.
Whatever you do to cope with a marathon, a researcher at the University of Brighton would love to hear from you.
Sarah Pither is in her third year of studying sports and exercise science at the Sussex-based university. "As part of my third year, I have to write a dissertation and I have chosen the area of coping strategies and marathon runners," she writes.
Sarah would like to send questionnaires to runners, both male and female, made up of 26 questions to get some insight into what it takes to run a marathon. "The questionnaire will consist of 26 statesments where the runners will rate on a scale of whether they agree or disagree," adds Sarah. "All information will remain confidential and the survey will only take five minutes to complete.
"I am looking to hear from runners who may have participated in a marathon recently, or they can complete the questionnaire after an upcoming marathon.
"I would be extremely grateful if your club members could assist me in my research, and if you are interested in participating in this research, please e-mail me as soon as possible. The more surveys I get, the better the results"
Results from the survey will be available in May this year.
