6.05 Special - Friday, July 7th

IT'S all aboard the 6.05 Special which, providing there are no leaves on the line, will be arriving this July.

Yes, without a frayed British Rail sandwich in sight, this most revered of running events, which has not been seen since the demise of steam, is making a comeback on Friday, July 7th.

The race starts and finishes at the old railway station in Wickham, and consists of an out and back course along the old railway line - a distance of 6.5 miles.

No names, no pack drill, but one year one unfortunate Stubby failed to make the turn at the top end of the course, and was last seen haring towards Alton!

The 6.05 Special will be steaming off at 7pm on July 7th. There will also be a two-mile walk along the same route for those who don't want to run.

Interested? Then all you have to do is to turn up on the night. You don't have to worry about race numbers or paying an entry fee in advance. The cost to enter is just £1, payable on the night, which will go to the Rainbow Centre in Fareham, a fantastic facility which helps children with cerebral palsy.

The event will also feature runners from Portsmouth Joggers and Eastleigh Running Club to make it a fun event.

There will be a host of prizes up for grabs, chief of which will be a Stubby Vets 6 going head to head against a Stubby Senior 6 team for bragging rights.

Afterwards, the club has booked a skittles alley and a bar at the back of the King's Head pub in Wickham Square. There will be basket meals available on the night, but these do need to be pre-booked.

Or, if you prefer, you can sit in the garden and get drunk with Chris "two sherries" Hall.

He promises a fun evening - and no rivers!!
