THE countdown is on for the Stubbington 10km road race. WE ARE NOW FULL
Sunday, January 8th, 2006 is the date for the race, sponsored by Southern Self Drive, which forms part of the Hampshire Road Race League and which is being organised once again by race director, Dave Hall.
The Stubbington 10km has a race limit of 1,200 runners which has been reached and such was the demand to take part from runners across the region and beyond that entries were full by the 10th November.
The Stubbington 10km is one of the first major races of the New Year, attracting a quality field. Many runners use the event as an ideal opportunity to collect a fast 10km time on a flat, runner-friendly course which picks its way from Stubbington along the seafront to Lee-on-the-Solent, and loops back via Lee Golf Course to Stubbington and a finish in the town centre.
A premier grade race with prizes to the value of £2,000, the Stubbington 10km can also cater for wheelchair racers. For all finishers there is a prized commemorative mug. Organisation includes changing and refreshment facilities at the nearby Crofton Community Centre, plus good car parking facilities in the vicinity.
There is also a one-mile junior fun run for youngsters aged between 7 and 14-years-old starting at 10.05am, with entries on the day priced at £1.
The cost of entry for the main race, which starts at 10am, is £7 for BAF club members or £9 for unattached runners. To have your entry confirmed you need to either include your e-mail address with the entry, or a stamped addressed envelope. Cheques are payable to 'Stubbington Green Runners 10k'.
For Stubbington club members, Dave Hall and Jenny Hearnden will be cajoling for helpers of all shapes and sizes on the day.
