First RR10 of the Season
THE Royal Victoria Country Park in Netley hosts the first RR10 of the season on April 19th - and Stubbington will be taking part for the first time.
The club are limited to 20 runners competing, and Mark Le Gassick is currently organising teams for the first race which starts at 7pm.
With five men in a scoring team, and three women, Stubbington are hoping to field two men's and women's teams, leaving four places open.
If you would like to run for the club on the 19th, or compete in any of the RR10 races which are held at venues across Hampshire from April through to the middle of August, then let Mark Le Gassick know at marklegass@sgrac.net
In particular, if you are not a regular racer, then the RR10 is designed for you. It is a gentle introduction to racing where no times are taken, and the course is set over picturesque forest and grasslands around Hampshire.
Distances vary between four and five miles, and the standard of entry varies enormously too - from five minute mile whippets up front, to a more sedate 11 or 12 minute mile pace at the back.
The race at Netley is organised by Southampton Running Club, and is a three lap race around the parkland beside the shore and in the shadow of the heritage centre which was once the site of a royal military hospital.
It is a nice gentle opener to the season. These are fun, friendly and very sociable races, held on a Wednesday evening. Normally the weather is pretty good, and many runners choose to head to the pub afterwards.
Contact Mark if you would like to run, or if you are interested in car sharing to one of the race venues. For full details about RR10 then log onto http://www.rr10.org.uk/ where you can find out more about this popular series which attracts all the main Hampshire clubs.
As a footnote, please don't turn up to the races on spec. Stubbington is strictly limited to 20 places, and would be put in an embarrassing position if more club runners turned out. So if you are interested in taking part, Mark Le Gassick is your man, and for those keen to compete on April 19th then e-mail Mark swiftly.
