Stubbington Green Runners

Recycling

DON'T KNOW what to do with your old running shoes? Well, instead of just throwing them out, or allowing them to fester at the bottom of a cupboard, why not recycle them.

Anne Fairhurst is one of Fareham Borough Council's recycling representatives - does she recycle old jokes? - and the Stubby member says that charities can get some use out of your worn out shoes.

She says: "Old trainers can go into any Salvation Army textile bank around the borough.

"It must be Salvation Army banks, not any other charity, because the SA crumb them for playground surfacing. Trainers in any condition, and even single ones are accepted.

"All other shoes for recycling must be good enough for someone else to wear again, and in pairs. There is a SA bank in the Stubbington car park."

So there you go, the next time you take the kids to the park and they're trotting around the play area, you could be treading in your old trainers. Phewwww!
