Promendade 5k, 10th May 2006
LAUREN Coates had a fine promenade around Hilsea with a sixth place finish in the Portsmouth Promenade 5km.
The event, part of a popular three-race series, was based at the Mountbatten Centre and organised by Portsmouth Athletic Club. It attracted a top quality field of runners from across the south coast.
Lauren has enjoyed a fantastic season so far, and she had a good speedy workout with a time of 21min 48sec to finish 92nd overall and sixth in the senior women's category. Rachel Whittaker took 12th in the SW category following her run for a time of 24:37 and 137th overall.
A total of 172 runners took part for a race won by James Baker from Chichester Runners - his second victory in the space for three days after the Marwell 10 win. He clocked 15:26 for the distance to win from Denmead Striders' Nick Baker in 15:52. Kaye Mansbridge from Winchester & District AC was the first female finisher in 17:50 for 23rd overall.
The next race takes place on July 5th. First Stubbington runner to finish was Ben Whittaker with 18:40 for 39th home. Chris Munro followed in 80th place in 21:08.
